Ilana Armida talks style and creating Iridescent Flower Child

New Pop/R&B artist Ilana Armida took some time recently to talk to POParazzi about her creative process in the creation of her new EP, Iridescent Flower Child. Read below to find how Armida’s time in college influenced her music, memories from the creation of the EP, and what she wants listeners to take away from her music. Read POParazzi’s review of the EP here.

POParazzi: Who are your biggest musical influences?

Ilana Armida: Strong female artists like Aaliyah, TLC, Janet Jackson [and] Alanis Morrisette, but also singer/performers like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, etc.

POParazzi: Has any other form of art influenced your music?

Armida: I draw inspiration from things I go through, so I am constantly writing or coming up with melody ideas. Most of my latest EP was done by myself, minus “Pretend” which I was lucky enough to write with my very talented friends. I love collaborating with other creative [people].

POParazzi: You studied at Florida Atlantic University and even took part in a student run record label. How did this experience prepare you for working on Iridescent Flower Child?

Armida: I learned a lot about the business side of things that I really had no knowledge of before. Now I am able to run my own record label which allows me to really do things my way.

POParazzi: How has your sound evolved since your time in college?

Armida: I have definitely improved as a singer, but also since college I have been able to hone in on who I am as an artist and really create music that is genuinely me.

POParazzi: You have a pretty distinct style in your visuals. Is there anything that inspires your look?

Armida: I kind of just wear whatever I am feeling. I like to express myself creatively through fashion as well as music. I think my style is kind of a mix between ’90s urban street wear and modern feminine chic.

POParazzi: What is one part of the creation of Iridescent Flower Child that you will never forget?

Armida: I will never forget performing “Pretend” for the first time in my hometown, before the EP came out, and all of my friends, family and supporters were singing the lyrics along with me.

POParazzi: What is the one thing you hope listeners will understand about you or take away from your music after they listen to the EP?

Armida:  I just hope this EP will leave people wanting more. I want people to be able to relate to me and my stories, and I have so much more to say.
