Interview: The Voice’s Aliyah Moulden On Her Role In Upcoming Netflix Original

Youngest Contestant To Make It To The Voice Finale Lands Netflix Lead Role

Rising star Aliyah Moulden, 15, of Orange County, California is taking the industry by storm as one of the youngest contestants in The Voice history, and now she’s joined the cast of an upcoming Netflix film.

The 15-year old singer found her love for performing at a young age. “I remember when I was three I would sit my family down and sing for them. I wouldn’t let them get up until I was done singing, sometimes that would last for hours,” Aliyah said.

Around the age of six or seven, Aliyah wanted to start taking singing seriously after being inspired by a Rihanna music video that she described as “the fiercest thing I have ever seen in my life.”

Aliyah started her journey on The Voice‘s 12th season with award winning Country artist Blake Shelton as her coach. “I always watched The Voice growing up, so it didn’t make any sense to me that I ended up there living my dream,” Aliyah said.

Aliyah described her time on The Voice as being surreal. “It still feels like it’s not my life when I talk about it,” she added.

Heartbroken that she didn’t win The Voice, Aliyah immediately took a lead role on the upcoming Netflix movie Anastasia: Once Upon A Time just one day after the music show’s finale.

“There is an amazing script and an amazing director,” Aliyah said.

Her character in the movie is a pop star in the 80’s that she describes as the “Madonna and Cyndi Lauper type.”

“It’s crazy that I get to kind of embody [another] time period when I am just fifteen,” Aliyah said.

Her claim to fame hasn’t been an overnight success in which Aliyah describes as being “A whole bunch of nothing, and then a whole bunch of everything at once”.

Aliyah’s driving force through it all is the support of her family and the drive to follow her dreams. “I want to do everything I possibly can, no matter how big or small.”
