Who would’ve expected Liam Payne and Rita Ora to collaborate on a song for Fifty Shades Freed? On second thought, it’s not that surprising, given Ora’s connections to the franchise and Payne being one of the biggest stars in the music industry.
The two’s duet results in just what you’d expect them to make on a movie soundtrack: the track is a bit of a mixed bag. The song, written by Ali Payami, Ali Tamposi and Andrew Watt, is full of the romantic lyrics you’d expect to find in a song for such a sexually charged movie. Payne and Ora’s vocals tend to lack the emotion to really elevate those lyrics to another level, though. Given that neither Ora nor Payne are the strongest vocalists, it’s not surprising.
The music video meets expectations with its high budget that comes thanks to the profile of the performers and the film franchise. Ora in particular dazzles in red, surrounded by roses. The music video is a beautiful work of art, stunningly shot and produced, but it is still, nonetheless, the mainstream pleasantries that are to be expected. Nothing about ‘For You’ goes above and beyond expectations. But with stars as big as these, sometimes painting by the numbers is enough for a passing grade.
