It’s the most magical night of the year! The opening number was over the top as usual – but it still didn’t beat last year’s opener with Alfonso. This week, each couple was given a Disney movie to portray.
Victoria and Val start the night with “Steamboat Willie.” Overall, it was boring, but that’s how Victoria’s dances have been for a while. The judges didn’t mind, only having good things to say. Len loved all of the jazz elements included and called their performance “fabulous.”
Vanessa and Max waltzed as Snow White and her prince. It was a very simple dance but still lovely to watch. The judges had many critiques for the couple, and they still remain in the middle of the leaderboard.
Lindsey and Mark foxtrotted to the classic Disney song “When You Wish Upon A Star.” Their performance were chilling, and all three judges praised them for a beautiful performance.
Nick and Peta portrayed The Jungle Book. They performed a fun, toe-tapping foxtrot. Although it was an entertaining performance, they still received a low score and will end on the bottom of the leaderboard.
Drew and Emma Viennese waltzed to a song from The Muppets. Drew is starting to show improvements, and his lanky body doesn’t seem so awkward. Carrie Ann said they are her favorite couple.
Sasha and Gleb rumbaed to The Little Mermaid‘s “Kiss The Girl”. A rumba to a kids’ song was not an ideal choice, but they cannot control that. Len called it a “well crafted routine.”
Terrell and Cheryl foxtrotted as Simba and Nala from The Lion King. It was a fun dance, and Terrell was very light and agile with his steps. They had many backup dancers who stole the spotlight a little too much. Other than that, it was a great performance, and the judges were very impressed with Terrell’s improvement in footwork.
Frankie and Witney channel their inner pirates and Argentine tango as if they were characters from Pirates of the Caribbean. This was a very entertaining performance and one of their best so far. It even warranted Carrie Ann’s half-screaming, super excited critique.
Jordan and Lindsay foxtrotted to a song from Moana. As usual, it was a very clean and crisp performance with no mistakes. Their magical performance warranted a perfect score of course.
Nikki and Artem wrap up the night with a jazz routine to portray Coco. Artem spiced up their dance with some Mexican flare to further resemble the movie. They received their highest score so far.
At the end of the night the leaderboard looked like
Jordan/Lindsay 30 Frankie/Witney 29 Lindsey/Mark 28 Victoria/Val 27 Nikki/Artem 27 Drew/Emma 25 Terrell/Cheryl 25 Vanessa/Maks 24 Sasha/Gleb 24 Nick/Peta 22
Sasha and Gleb and Frankie and Witney are in jeopardy – a big shock considering Nick and Peta have been on the bottom for three weeks now. Sasha had to say her goodbyes, but says she had a great experience and also lost 37 pounds from the show.
Check back next week for another re-cap from Dancing with the Stars!
