New Music: Kat Saul – ‘Body Language’

Saul sizzles on new track

19-year-old Kat Saul may be young, but she’s got the talent and style of artists who have dominated the charts for longer than she’s been alive. Her previous release, ‘Iconic’ had a seductive production as Saul sang about puppy love. Saul’s new release, ‘Body Language’ follows in the footsteps of ‘Iconic,’ melding a sway-worthy production and sizzling lyrics that makes Saul both stand out and feel right at home with the Top 40.

Saul laments about looking a ‘fucking mess,’ struggling to find herself and the love she deserves. As sultry as the song is on its face, there’s a deeper meaning to its lyrics that are relatable, especially to today’s generation where hookups are normal and regrets can come all too soon. It’s something that Saul herself has even struggled with. Speaking of the song, she says, “‘Body Language’ is about going against your better judgement and hooking up with somebody you aren’t sure you should be with. [It’s] a true story. It’s exactly as the song […] goes. I had hooked up with a guy who was actively pursuing me the night before. My friends and family hated him, but I was lost in the moment and couldn’t help myself. I was so upset over whether or not I was just a jerk leading him on, or if we were really supposed to be together. The next day, I ended up writing the chorus to the song while binge-ing out on spray can whipped cream in the Kroger parking lot bawling my eyes out in the middle of the afternoon. My wailing started turning into lyrics, and before I knew it, I was recording lyrics on my iPhone in one hand, and holding my whipped cream in the other.”

‘Body Language’ is out now on Soundcloud, and will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms on the 11th.
