Iggy Azalea’s sophomore album has been long overdue — the once tentatively-titled Digital Distortion was announced in late 2015, but relationship and label issues changed the project completely. Now in a new state of mind and with a more supportive label, Iggy has released a new track, ‘Savior,’ from the newly titled forthcoming Surviving the Summer.
‘Savior’ is a more relaxed sound than fans of Azalea’s hits will be accustomed to, and with all she’s been through, it’s no surprise that her music is more laid back. There’s an essence of maturity to the track that radiates from its relaxed vibe. She’s not changed her style completely though — verses still boast Iggy’s signature raps that skyrocketed her to fame and have become loved by fans and loathed by her detractors.
Quavo joins Azalea on the track for the song’s chorus, adding to the song’s chill vibes with minimal effort. The focus remains on Iggy and her comeback. Think of it as a ‘Lite’ feature; the status quo of pop/rap crossover demands there to be a featured artist, and ‘Savior’ meets these demands without pulling focus.
In the lyric video, Azalea looks stunning and fashionable as she stays in her element. Despite staying in character for the video, remaining mysterious and rather unexpressive, its easy to see Azalea is living in the moment. When else has a lyric video looked so good?
