ZEROBASEONE Flexed Their Power in Manila [Concert Review & Photos]

The K-Pop Boy Band Lit Up Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday Night

ZEROBASEONE performs at the Mall of Asia arena in Manila on Oct. 12, 2024.

ZEROBASEONE brought their ‘Timeless World’ tour to the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila Oct. 12 and proved that they’re a boy band build to last. For a group that made their debut a little over a year ago (in July 2023), ZEROBASEONE has clearly been working around the clock — and they were able to deliver a headlining show filled with an impressive roster of songs.

The K-Pop group and their extremely excited fans may have even been too powerful for Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena — the show began with a countdown from ten that got the entire crowd ready to go, only to have caused a power surge in the building. Once the issues were squared away, the show kicked off once more and ZEROBASEONE arrived on stage with their hit ‘Solar POWER’ — perhaps too appropriate a title.

As the 9-member group worked the stage, catwalk and B-stage, their devotion to their fans (lovingly called ‘ZEROSE’) was evident with every step. When they weren’t performing the type of choreography you’d come to expect from a K-Pop boy group, their attention was on acknowledging all of their fans’ signs, hand hearts, and screams.

Highlights from the setlist included ‘New Kidz on the Block’ as well as ‘Kill The Romeo’ from ZEROBASEONE’s latest EP, Cinema Paradise. The group also took time to perform songs from their time on Boys Planet, paying tribute to the reality show that ultimately led to their formation.

It’s also worth noting that their voices were impeccable when performing live, even with the demanding choreography that just about every track included. This was evident multiple times throughout the night when the members would talk and interact with the audience between songs, often randomly breaking out into singing to the fans’ delight.

Perhaps the highlight of the entire evening was the rousing ‘Good So Bad’ which got the entire crowd on their feet — even those in the 500 section. The crowd literally could not get enough of this song, and ZEROBASEONE were all too happy to oblige the fans’ requests, singing about three encores of the chorus as the band zipped around the stage dancing and interacting with ZEROSE.

The K-Pop group could clearly feel the love of their Filipino fans — and they’d even prepared a special treat for them with a cover of Filipino singer Maki’s song ‘Dilaw’. The screams that rang out during this song were deafening, and some fans were even crying, overwhelmed by the boys’ willingness to learn a Tagalog for them. It was a touching moment that proved the bond between K-Pop artists like ZEROBASEONE and their fans really can’t be matched.

At the end of the night, each of ZEROBASEONE’s members promised they’d be back in Manila soon enough, and judging by the audience’s screams of approval, that next concert can’t come soon enough.
